George Murray, above, Deputy District Director of the West Virginia Office of the U. S. Small Business Administration, instructed a crowd of business leaders in the ways and means of selling to the federal government during the monthly meeting of the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce recently.
Murray’s detailed presentation at Philippi’s Market Place included step-by-step instructions, starting with an application for a Data Universal Number and concluding with advice for preparing a contract solicitation. There are many opportunities as “Prime” contractors, as well as for “Subcontracting” he said. There are websites in both categories to assist in the preparation of a contract, adding that would-be contractors must be registered with SBA’s System for Award Management, about a 2-hour process. Murray concluded with a summary of helpful web sites, including the Agency Small & Disadvantaged Business Utilization Office, Procurement & Technical Assistance Centers in West Virginia and throughout the country, Small Business Development Centers, and SBA’s Government Contracting.
