The Barbour County Chamber of Commerce has invited an expert to advise small businesses in the county on how to protect their business. Non-member businesses are especially invited to attend.
Larry Batten, an Economic Development Specialist with the U. S. Small Business Administration, will teach business owners how to identify and deal with problems which are a threat to business success. The workshop will take place over breakfast at Gypsy’s Restaurant in the Garden Market in Philippi on Thursday, October 5th.
All attendants are requested to notify the Chamber Office if they plan to participate. A breakfast buffet costing $ 10, tax and tip included and paid at the door, will begin at 8:00 a.m. with the workshop proceeding immediately following.
Larry Batten was born and raised in West Virginia and served for ten years in the U. S. Marine Corps. He has owned two of his own businesses. He is committed, he says, to educating individuals and entrepreneurs in business-related training, SBA programs, and SBA services in order to help others to realize their dream of small business ownership.
Batten will teach how to identify common business risks including internal and external factors, to learn about situations which can risk a business, warning signs to watch for, and how to create a risk management plan.
