Phyllis Deffet, left, a member of the women’s committee for A Ladies Night Out, presented a check recently to Tammy Smith, Director of the Belington Public Library.

The check represents the library’s share of the proceeds from Ladies Night Out, a fund-raising effort sponsored October 20th by the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce.  A check in the same amount was delivered to the Philippi Public Library.

One hundred-forty-eight women attended Ladies Night Out at the Junior Volunteer Fire Department on October 20th along with 30 vendors.  The evening fund-raising effort was the first for the Chamber and enjoyed 21 sponsors.  The Ladies Night Out women’s committee reported proceeds from ticket sales, a live auction, a silent auction, a 50/50 drawing, raffles, and wine-tasting.  Catering was provided by KFC.  The committee’s stated objective was to help the Philippi and Belington libraries and assist the Chamber’s scholarship program at Philip Barbour High School while doing something nice for the ladies of the community.  The Chamber in addition supports business promotions annually in both the Philippi and Belington areas.
