The Haven of Hope Church Praise Band will provide special music during the up-coming Annual Banquet of the Barbour Chamber of Commerce. A punch-bowl reception for guest speaker John Ebert will begin at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 3rd, in the Blue & Gold Dining Room at Alderson Broaddus University.
Directed by Pastor Benita Swick, the Haven of Hope Praise Band consists of Hanna Swick, Dillon Westfall, Dave Ryan, Steve Hill, and Mellisa Simmons. Pastor Benita Swick has performed on international Christian television, and her CD, “One Life to Live”, consists of original songs written and performed by the talented guitarist.
The Haven of Hope Church was founded in 1993 by the Pastors Swick on U. S. Route 250 between Philippi and Belington, and holds worship services and children’s church at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings, Teen Church at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday nights, and a Wednesday evening Bible Study at 7:00 p.m.
The church boast several important mission projects, including the Hope’s Mission Thrift Store on Main Street in Philippi, Hope’s Mission Food Pantry which delivered 130 thousand pounds of food in 2017, Mission 3:16 Outreach which provides food, clothing and home supplies annually at the Barbour County Fairgrounds, a Hope for Christmas Toy Drive which served 2-3,000 children each year for the past 17 years, and a food both during the County Fair.
