The Barbour County Prosecuting Attorney and Sickler Farm are the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce Members of the Month in March. Thomas Hoxie, left, is the Prosecuting Attorney. Lisa Sickler, right, is the co-owner of Sickler Farm.
Sickler Farm is a family-owned and operated farm on Chestnut Ridge Road in Moatsville three miles from downtown Philippi. The farm features quality products, years of experience, and excellent customer service, says the owner.
Sickler Farm is a produce and flower farm as well as an agritourism destination. It offers seasonal produce on a year-round basis as well as Mother’s Day hanging baskets, bedding plants, vegetable starts, fall mums, and pumpkins. Sickler’s hosts on-farm class trips, Easter Egg Hunts, a Fall Festival and a Haunted Trail. They may be reached at sicklerfarm.com, (304) 457-6615, or on facebook.
Thomas Hoxie is a Barbour County native and graduate of Philip Barbour High School and the West Virginia University College of Law. He was an Associate Attorney at Mullens & Mullens, PLLC before his election to the County Court in 2016. He had a general legal practice with a wide-range of civil litigation along with an active civil defense practice.
“The Prosecuting Attorney”, Hoxie says, “is responsible for prosecuting all criminal cases in the county and representing the county in civil cases. He is also responsible for representing the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources in all child-abuse and neglect cases in the county.
“Combating the drug epidemic and managing the increase in child–abuse and neglect cases has been the major issues facing the Prosecutor’s Office this year,” he said. This year alone Hoxie resolved over one hundred cases. “The defendant has a high likelihood of committing additional crimes if they remain addicted,” he said. “Over 100 child-abuse and neglect cases have been filed this year, and drug addiction is the reason for the increase.”
The Prosecutor’s Office is located on the 2nd floor of the Barbour County Courthouse, telephone 457-1811, or visit barbourcountywv.org
