The community of Junior pays tribute to local veterans with a stately 356-brick memorial wall that stands beneath the proudly-flying flags of the United States, West Virginia and stark P.O.W. silks. The Junior Memorial Wall is constructed of stacked brick and provides the back drop to an onyx monument inscribed with, “Those who served in war and peace” below the insignias of the branches of our country’s military. Each brick features the etched name of one Barbour County veteran, along with dates served and branch of service. This wall is the product of the local Junior Improvement Committee and proudly stands as a reminder of the noble and local men and women who dutifully – honorably – served God and country.
The memorial is a wonderful place for quiet reflection and remembrance of loved ones amid a small path of green shrubbery. Adjacent to the memorial wall and across the street is the Junior Park, a community recreational area with expanse of lawn, and playground to keep little ones occupied. Likewise, the park is a great place for families to gather for Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day holidays, as it provides a view of the Junior Memorial that honors the veterans who are remembered by their community.
