President Barry presented a Directors Award in Memoriam to Mrs. Loyd in the form of an engraved Alderwood plaque. The Directors Awards are determined by the Chamber’s Board of Directors to honor those who deserve appreciation for their service to Barbour County. Loyd’s award was for a “lifetime of service to West Virginia University and to the Barbour County Fair.
John Loyd was a native of Sutton who moved to Barbour County as a 4-H Agent with West Virginia University. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Dairy Science and a Master’s Degree in Education from WVU. He retired from 4-H in 1993 but remained as the President of the Barbour County Fair where the Entertainment Center was named in his honor. He received countless awards for his service and leadership, was President of West Virginia Fairs & Festivals, and was a member of the Legal Aid Society, North Central Community Action, Barbour County Farm Bureau, Heart & Hand House, and Crim Memorial Church.
