The Barbour County Chamber of Commerce annual Community Service Award is nominated and elected by the total Chamber membership.  The award recognizes someone who has significantly improved the quality of life in Barbour County during the year 2020.

The award, in the form of an engraved Cooper clock, was presented by Chamber President Dr. Tim Barry, left, to Willa Jo Jones for “going beyond her share of making our city beautiful”.

Jones’s nominator said of her, “Many people from all over see the beauty of Barbour County due to her and her husband Ed’s efforts.  Together they spent many hours planting bulbs, flowers, and ground cover throughout Philippi’s downtown area which you can see when you cross the Tygart River on the covered bridge.  You can also see where they have beautified  the parks and the entrance to the parking lots as well.  In addition, they even pick up trash and debris along the way.  Willa Jo certainly deserves this award.”
