Kaiser’s Coffee and Candy and the Heart and Hand Thrift Stores are the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce Members of the Month in December.  Joseph Kaiser III, left, is the President of Kaiser’s Coffee and Candy.  Faenell Bartlett, center, and Willa Jo Jones are volunteers at the Heart and Hand Thrift Store in Philippi.

Heart and Hand house was founded in 1965 as a non-profit mission project affiliated with the West Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.  Their food pantry is open five days a week and their emergency assistance for income-eligible residents includes layette and infant-care items, emergency financial assistance, a summer home-repair and construction program, Backpack Feeding Program for school children, Community Garden Market, and thrift stores in Belington and Philippi.

The Thrift Stores offer new and gently-used clothing, household goods and furniture at low prices, while providing the same at no cost to low-income families.  The stores also have inexpensive glassware, appliances, toys, antiques and collectables.  Proceeds from both stores support the ministry of Heart and Hand House, while helping low-income families. 

Carla Rogers is the Manager of the Philippi Thrift Store.  She is a graduate of Philip Barbour High School and Davis and Elkins College where she majored in Fashion Merchandising.  The Heart and Hand Thrift Stores are located at 38 South Walnut Street in Philippi and 73 Bridge Street in Belington.  Their web address is www.heartandhandhouse.org.
