Sheriff Brett Carpenter has served in law enforcement for over 20 years. His office, whose objective he says is to “save the people”, handles home confinement, accident reports, responds to 911 calls throughout the county, and manages the county tax office in the county courthouse. He is an elected official with a degree from West Virginia University. Carpenter is Vice President of the county’s Drug Task Force and Vice President of the SWAT team. He received the Governor’s Life Saving Award from the Office of Defense, and Patriotic Employee Award. The new building at 206 South Main Street in Philippi, houses 13 deputies and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
