The Barbour County Health Department and Mountain State Quilting are the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce Members of the Month in December.

The Barbour County Health Department operates as a county health agency focusing on protecting and improving the health of people in the community and is concerned with preventing the spread of disease and illness. “We take steps,” Burner says, “to ensure that the population has clean food and water, and we sponsor awareness campaigns to teach the public about health and wellness.”
Burner is a graduate in Medical Science from Alderson Broaddus College and holds a Masters Degree in Health Administration from George Washington University’s School of Public Health. She has held several positions with the Barbour Community Health Association including, most recently Clinical Director and Chief Medical Officer. She served as Secretary of the National Commission on the Certification of Physician’s Assistants, and has been a member of the West Virginia Rural Health Association, American College of Healthcare Executives, and represents Barbour County on the West Virginia Public Health Association.
Mountain State Quilting at 15227 Barbour County Highway in Philippi is a retail store offering quilting and related supplies Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m.to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Mark Tenney says, “we offer longarm quilting services as well as a full retail store offering a complete line of fabric, notions and gifts. We are an authorized Brother dealer and Service Center stocking more than 20 models of sewing and embroidery machines. Mountain State Quilting also serves as an authorized UPS shipping center,” he says.
A Philippi native, Tenney has over 30 years of product sales and service and has successfully managed major companies and led sales teams to significant growth. “We have had many compliments on our store’s beautiful fabrics, industry-leading sewing and embroidery machines, and competitive pricing,” he says, as well as our friendly atmosphere and quilting services.”
