Rick Kennedy, left, was recognized by Barbour Chamber President Eric Ruf recently during the Annual Chamber Banquet for a life-time of service in Barbour County’s public schools.
“Rick Kennedy has touched the lives of thousands of middle school students in his forty-plus year career, “said Ruf. “He has taught young people to appreciate music and its impact on their lives as well as the importance of hard work and commitment in working toward a goal. Over the years, Rick’s strong middle school program has led to the continued success of the Philip Barbour High School Band,” Ruf said.
Kennedy graduated from Salem College with a B. A. Degree in Music Education and a major in Pipe Organ. He served as the organist at the Church of the Covenant in Grafton and Christ Episcopal and St. Mark’s Lutheran Churches in Clarksburg. Following retirement in 2014, Kennedy currently provides volunteer coaching and directing for several local school bands, said Ruf.
