Bryce McGee, left, and Madison Sandridge were awarded $500 academic scholarships during Awards Day ceremonies held recently at Philip Barbour High School.

Eric Ruf, center, the President of the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce, presented the awards.  Ruf is the Director of the Belington Community Medical Center. 

Bryce McGee is the son of Pat and Renee McGee, and a resident of Elk City.  A graduating Senior, he is a member of the cross-country, track, and swimming teams, and a member of the Student Council, Key Club, and Future Business Leaders of America.  He was the 2016 FBLA Public Service Announcement winner and was the state  runner-up in the 100-metre butterfly competition.  He is a member of the Southern Baptist Church of Philippi.

Madison Sandridge, right, the daughter of Jeff and Leslie Sandridge, is a Student Council representative, member of the swimming, volleyball, tennis and cross-country teams, and is graduating with honors as a member of the National Honors Society.  She was the 2015 Barbour County Fair Queen and built the pavilion at the Kasson Elementary/Middle School pre-school playground.  She is also a member of the Southern Baptist Church of Philippi.

The two academic scholarships are funded through the Barbour Chamber’s Annual Golf Tournament, which took place on Friday, May 20th at the Barbour Country Club.
